Former doctor pleads guilty to child porn charges

Some of what court documents say Dr. Paul David DeLeeuw did are simply too graphic to reveal. With his guilty plea, DeLeeuw admitted possessing dozens of sexually explicit pictures and videos of children. It's a crime that has people living in his upscale Fort Myers neighborhood buzzing.

"I haven't really seen him around and nobody really knew why, and neighbors were asking did I know what happened," said neighbor Samantha Bertino. Now we're learning what happened behind the walls of anesthesiologist DeLeeuw's home.

Court documents reveal an undercover agent discovered DeLeeuw downloading child porn through an online file sharing program. Going by the username "boyzrus," DeLeeuw shared graphic pictures of children "engaged in sexually explicit activity." That led authorities to DeLeeuw's home, where they found hard drives containing more than 150 videos and pictures.

DeLeeuw plead guilty and was convicted last week. He's out on bond and we went looking for him today. The people at his home told us no comment, but neighbors did talk. "Wow, it's like really shocking to me. I don't want to believe it pretty much," Bertino said. Bertino says she's known DeLeeuw's daughter for years, and says the details of DeLeeuw's crime are disturbing. "He didn't seem like a real scary person just kind of off when it came to social things," Bertino said.

This isn't DeLeeuw's first brush with the law. In 2011, deputies arrested him for possessing marijuana. Despite that, he has no disciplinary record on file with the state medical board. His medical license expired last month. He's now listed as retired and could be headed to jail.

We reached out to DeLeeuw's attorney for comment, but we have not yet heard back. DeLeeuw is scheduled for sentencing in June. He faces up to a decade in prison and a $250,000 fine.
