Local pastors and community leaders held a meeting this morning to discuss the problem of violent crime and homicides in Fort Myers.
The group, which includes Mayor Randy Henderson, Police Chief Doug Baker, Rev. James Givens of Mt. Olive Church and Pastor William Glover of Mt. Hermon Ministries, began the meeting at 9 a.m. at the Quality Life Center on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Abdul'Haq Muhammed, executive director of the Quality Life Center, said he hopes to come up with specific plans of action to attack violence in the city.
"We have different approaches that may involve education, economic development, health, different areas that we consider to be our goal that we set," he said. "So we will address those different types of initiatives."
Today's meeting included many participants that attended a Jan. 31 meeting in which Baker discussed forming a partnership between police and the clergy.
