Man facing child solicitation charges found dead in Collier

The body of a missing Naples man has been found off of Curcie Road at the base of a cell phone tower in south Collier County. Deputies say they found the body of Richard Gamez, a 31-year-old Naples Park man.

Officials with the Collier County Sheriff's Office say they believe the death is the result of a suicide, but will not know for sure until an autopsy is performed.

Richard Gamez was last seen at his home around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to detectives. Deputies say family members believed Gamez would try to harm himself. Gamez was arrested in 2011 on child solicitation charges.

According to the Collier County Sheriff's Office, Gamez solicited an undercover deputy who had been posing as a 14-year-old girl. Detectives say Gamez arranged a meeting after discussing the various sex acts he wanted to perform with the teen he thought he was chatting with.

Initially, emergency crews had called in a HAZMAT team because there was a potential health hazard to the first responders. As a result, the scene had to be decontaminated. Crews have not yet elaborated on why they believed it to be a HAZMAT situation.

Right now, the Collier County Sheriff's Office says it is being treated as a crime scene.
