A can of coffee, drink mixes, baby wipes, laundry tablets, kitty litter - seemingly harmless household supplies, right? Not for a woman arrested at JFK Airport in New York. What appeared to be common enough items in her checked baggage to Barbados, turned out to be much more.
The suitcases allegedly had two .40 caliber disassembled handguns, magazines for the guns, 350 rounds of ammunition and 58 bricks or 33 pounds of marijuana, all stuffed and concealed in the household containers. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) inspected the women's bags after an x-ray alarm indicated there was something metal in one of the drink mix containers.
The woman was arrested by the New York Port Authority and charged with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, possession of high-capacity magazines and possession of ammunition.
The TSA has guidelines for traveling with firearms and ammunition.
