Just a couple of days before the new year was rung in, two men and a mother were taken into custody at a Fort Myers motel. The Lee County Sheriff’s Department said the men are each facing a series of weapons and drug charges after their arrests last week, while the woman is accused of child neglect.

The men are 32 years old and 29 years old. The woman is the mother of the 32-year-old man’s child.

According to a news report by WINK TV (Channel 11), the two men face allegations that they sold cocaine from the Palm Beach Motel on Palm Beach Boulevard within 1,000 feet of a park. They are also accused of possessing cocaine with intent to sell (also within 1,000 feet of a park), marijuana possession (less than 20 grams), as well as possession of a legend drug (a drug for which a person needs a prescription) and possession of drug paraphernalia.

At least one of the men faces a charge of firearm possession by a felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

They are also accused of use a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony.

During a raid of a motel room, Lee County law enforcement officials said they seized items including:

  • 11 grams of crack cocaine
  • 11.8 grams of a substance believed to be ecstasy/Molly
  • 5.6 grams marijuana
  • Cocaine manufacturing paraphernalia
  • 24.2 grams of a substance believed to be synthetic cathinones (bath salts)
  • A Lorcin .380 handgun
  • $1,218 cash

The woman was charged with child neglect for allegedly allowing the child to be within reach of illegal drugs and a firearm. The 32-year-old man faces the same allegation.

Clearly, convictions on the charges could seriously impact the lives of the accused, as well as the life of the child.
