Red Sox left-hander Drake Britton arrested for DUI in Fort Myers

| Mar 6, 2013 | Aggravated DUI, DUI

Boston Red Sox minor leaguer John Drake Britton was arrested early Saturday for driving under the influence. Britton, 23, was also charged with reckless driving and DUI with property damage.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrest report states that Britton was clocked traveling at 76-mph in a 45-mph zone on Estero Parkway in a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado. The deputy states in the report he estimated Britton was traveling at 111-mph as he attempted to catch up to him.

Britton continued speeding, the report states, before he eventually jumped a curb and struck a barbed wire fence, knocking it down. Britton continued on, driving on a dirt road before attempting to turn into the woods. He then came to a stop.

The deputy states Britton had a dazed look on his face when told why he was pulled over. Britton was asked for his driver’s license, and handed the deputy his debit card. Britton eventually handed the deputy his Texas license, and admitted to drinking.

Britton posted bond Saturday. His next court date is March 18.

Britton was optioned to Double-A Portland in Maine during the Red Sox’s first round of roster cuts. The club released a statement Tuesday saying they take the arrest “very seriously, and it is being addressed.” They declined further comment.
