Deputies in Collier County arrested a Golden gate Estates man after finding 50 marijuana plants in his home. Officials say those plants were valued at $727,000.
Wednesday, detectives with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant for the home, located at 2535 29th Avenue NE. Detectives say they discovered that a detached garage had been converted into an indoor marijuana grow operation.
In addition to the plants, they also found growing equipment such as cooling units, transformers and high-intensity lighting. The value of the grow equipment alone was estimated at $5,000.
A resident of the home, Landy Fernandez, 27, was in the house when deputies arrived. He was charged with trafficking marijuana, possession of a place used for trafficking a controlled substance and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.
A second person in the home at the time the warrant was executed could not be tied to the grow operation and was released.
