A Lehigh Acres man was arrested by airport police Wednesday after a reckless driving incident on Air Cargo Lane.
Officers were responding to a fire call around 1 p.m. when they say they saw Douglas Peter Miller, 53, driving a red Jeep at a high rate speed – estimated to be about double the 35 mph speed limit on that road.
As police tried to catch up, they say Miller sped through a construction zone, passing other vehicles as he went. Miller allegedly came up to the area where the road was blocked off by patrol cars, because of the fire, and was slowed by other stopped vehicles.
Police say he drove onto the shoulder of the road, through a gap in the other vehicles and made a U-turn, ignoring orders to stop as he drove at an officer who was trying to block the Jeep from leaving.
Officers pursued Miller another 200 yards down the road before they say he pulled over and was taken into custody.
Investigators say a search of the Jeep yielded a prescription medication, as well as another, unmarked prescription bottle with 257 pills inside. Police say it contained Alprazolam, Benazepril Hyprochloride, Hydro Chlorophiazide, Nexium, Paroxetine Hydrocholride and an unidentified orange pill.
Millier is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance without a Prescription, Assault on an Officer, Resisting an Officer without Violence, and Speeding in a Construction Zone.
He was taken to the Lee County Jail.
