FHP: Golf cart driver charged with DUI after crash

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Port Charlotte man was critically hurt in a golf cart crash and the driver was charged with a DUI.

It happened around 5:30 Sunday morning, on Sunnybrook Road, in Charlotte County.

FHP said 22-year-old Nickoles Chanza was driving a golf cart when he made a sharp turn, and 21-year-old Nicholas McDaniel fell off.

According to FHP, McDaniel wasn’t secured in the cart and he hit his head on the pavement.

Paramedics took him to Lee Memorial Hospital.

Chanza, the driver, was charged with a DUI and serious bodily injury to another.

McDaniel was still at lee memorial hospital in critical condition Sunday afternoon.
