Fort Myers police arrested a driver they say is responsible for a fatal January crash.

Paul Pombier, 50, of Fort Myers was arrested Monday afternoon on charges of driving under the influence, DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide and DUI with property damage.

Police say Pombier had a blood alcohol level of .15 or higher on January 28 when we was driving a 2001 Toyota Avalon on McGregor Boulevard. Around 3 a.m., he lost control of the car and hit two palm trees.

The crash killed his passenger, Tiffany Thomas, 25, of Fort Myers.

Pombier’s blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit, .08. The investigation also showed Pombier was driving two times faster than the posted speed limit.

Police arrested Pombier without incident as arrangements were made through his attorney.
