Accused rapist on the run: Victim's mother speaks out

A Lee County mother opened up about her painful past. She shared some very dark secrets in hopes her daughter's accused rapist will finally be caught. She explained the man she once loved has been on the run for years - accused of raping two young girls.

Inside the now-empty Lehigh Acres home, she says there is nothing but tarnished memories.  Jackie Palmer says for two years, her daughter carried the weight of the world on her shoulders every time she was forced into a bedroom. "I'd come home and there would be a strange air about the house," she described.

She says her daughter finally opened up about her secret when Troy Bolin was arrested for sexually molesting another girl. "She told me what he had done to her," Jackie remembered. "I never thought in a million years that the church guy is going to hurt your kids. It was very well hidden. I didn't know anything was going on," said Jackie Palmer.

Up and down the block, Bolin spent his days holding informal bible studies, teaching the 10 Commandments to children, citing bible passages and spreading God's word.

Bolin's ex-wife says he had everyone fooled. "A closet monster--because on the outside he can be extremely friendly," Jackie said. Friendly is exactly what Rex Fritchie remembers. He and Bolin were fishing buddies.

"He was loyal and I like that and he was just very basic and down to earth type person. I like that, too," he said. He says he never knew about his friend's darker side. "I like him as a man, but i don't like what he did," Fritchie said.

Bolin bonded out of jail in 2006, after the first accusation, and officials we spoke to say he was immediately tipped off about the second allegation. A warrant couldn't get processed fast enough to go pick him up and Bolin hasn't been seen since.

"The fact that he ran like a coward--to me that's an indicator of guilt. If you had nothing to hide, if you did not do those things that you're accused of, why didn't you stay in town?" said Trish Route with Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers.

The faces of Bolin are ever-changing. Much like a chameleon, he's described as a survivor and as fearless.

When we asked Jackie if she thinks Bolin will ever be found, she simply responded, "hopefully."

Hopefully, she says, so the little girl who bloomed into a woman years before she had to can finally heal.

Bolin was last seen about a year ago in north Georgia. But the trail has since gone cold.

If you've seen Bolin, Crime Stoppers wants to hear from you. You can call them at 1-800-780-TIPS. And remember, you can remain anonymous.
