Charles Nave pleads not guilty to child porn charges

Charles Nave, the former technical director of Big Arts on Sanibel, pled not guilty to two child porn charges in federal court. Those charges carry a maximum of 20 years in prison. Nave was in court with his wife and mother by his side. But he did not have the large support group he had at his last appearance.

Officials we spoke with explained a status conference is set for June 10 at 11 a.m. The defense has also requested to modify the conditions of Nave's release so that he can see his own children. There will likely be a hearing on that this week.

Federal agents arrested Nave after an undercover investigation that started in January. The federal complaint says 38-year-old Nave shared child porn with undercover officers and he also emailed some of those images. Agents then tracked the activity back to an internet connection at Big Arts Gallery on Sanibel, where records indicate Nave worked since 2004.

According to court documents, when agents moved in to arrest him, Nave said he knew why they were there and admitted he has "a pornography addiction and he wanted to get help." He told police the addiction has lasted for years and he began sharing child porn within the last six months. Police found hundreds of images of child porn on his computer.
