No new trial for woman who caused fatal crash

The Lee County woman who hit and killed a solider while driving drunk back in 2007 will not get a new trial. Last week, Ashley East asked the judge for the new trial, citing a number of reasons; and Friday, we learned the judge made his decision.

East had blamed her attorney, saying the charges weren't explained to her and that no one helped her to understand the rules of double jeopardy. But Judge Bruce Kyle didn't buy it.

The 2007 crash killed solider Danny Beougher, who was home from 3 tours in Iraq.

His wife Lauren was injured.

Judge Kyle, in his ruling, said the attorney advised her properly and that East waived her rights to double jeopardy objections and he denied her request for a new trial.

East will continue serving her 25 year sentence.

She is scheduled to be released in April 2032.
