Former Lee deputy who lost job due to nude video charged with theft in Cape Coral

A former Lee County sheriff's deputy and Punta Gorda police officer who twice lost her job because of a nude video has been charged with stealing an iPad from a Cape Coral Walmart.

Gina Wiseley was arrested Friday by Cape police after staff at the Del Prado Boulevard Walmart allegedly showed them video of Wiseley prying open an acrylic security case and removing a white 16GB iPad valued at $459 just after midnight on June 23.

According to Wiseley's arrest report, she placed the iPad under a towel in her shopping cart then went through the self-checkout lane but failed to pay for the tablet computer. Police said Walmart employees were able to identify her because she returned two items for store credit prior to the theft, providing a copy of her driver's license in the process.

Wiseley was charged with grand theft and two counts of property damage. She reportedly told police she takes numerous medications that cause her to black out and she didn't remember stealing the device.

She said she discovered several shopping bags in her car from Walmart on the morning of June 26 and, finding the situation odd, searched a list of incidents on the Cape police website and saw a theft had been reported at the store.

Fearing she was in possession of a stolen iPad, Wiseley allegedly went back to the store and told employees she had not stolen anything but had, in fact, hidden the device in some furniture before leaving. Later in the conversation she reportedly fessed up and handed over the device.

She told police she lied because was scared and didn't want to get in trouble, according to the report.

Wiseley was fired by then-Lee County Sheriff Rod Shoap in 2004 for causing damage while chipping golf balls in the agency's major crimes unit area. She was a detective at the time.

She was rehired by Sheriff Mike Scott - who said at the time he rehired her because she threatened to file a lawsuit and his legal advisers told him the sheriff's office couldn't win in court - in 2005 but she resigned less than two months later during an internal investigation into footage of her dancing naked in Fantasy Fest 2001, a video shot in Key West and marketed on a Web site. In the video she was seen exposing her breasts and fondling herself, according to police reports.

In 2007, she was fired by Punta Gorda police after an internal affairs investigation determined she twice disobeyed orders not to discuss an investigation into the viewing of the tape by other officers, a spokesman said at the time.
