Toxicology released on driver, victim in motorcycle dragging

| Jul 17, 2013 | DUI, DUI Manslaughter, fatal crash

New information released today in a crash that left a motorcyclist dead in May reveals both drivers had excessive amounts of alcohol and other drugs in their systems at the time of the incident.

Donna Brown, a 55-year-old Naples resident, is accused of hitting 54-year-old Carl Patrick while he was on his motorcycle around 9 p.m. on May 10. Deputies said she then dragged him under her SUV for about three miles on US-41 in Estero.

According to Brown’s blood test, her blood alcohol content was .219. Florida’s legal limit is .08. It also revealed she had THC in her system. An investigation revealed that Patrick had more than three times the legal limit in his system; his BAC was .285. His blood test also tested positive for cocaine.

According to new documents released by the state attorney’s office, a witness called 911 and said he watched Brown hit Patrick, leaving a trail of flames, smoke and sparks on the road.

The FHP deputy who stopped Brown stated in the incident report he saw a motorcycle tire and a man under her vehicle. He also said Brown was wearing sunglasses, slurred her speech, and smelled of alcohol.

Denying a breathalyzer twice, Brown submitted to a blood test.

The documents also state while Brown was being placed under arrest, she made concerning statements that put her under suicide watch for the night.

Patrick was pronounced dead at the scene by a responding paramedic.

Brown will be back in court in September.
