LEE COUNTY –

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 20 people on drug-related charges during operation “Mind your manor.”

The sheriff’s office’s SWAT Team took down five homes in the Pine Manor community simultaneously Wednesday around 7 a.m.

Detectives seized heroin, crack cocaine, methamphetamine pills, and they say suspected drug dealers were hauled off to jail.

“It’s safe to say they didn’t know what hit them until it was too late,” said Sheriff Mike Scott.

At a Wednesday afternoon conference, Sheriff Scott announced that 20 people had been arrested as part of the operation so far. More than a dozen others are actively being sought.

Sheriff Scott, along for the operation, says one of the most poignant moments of his law enforcement career was witnessing a SWAT team member as he cradled an infant and rushed him out of harm’s way.

The infant’s crib was just a couple feet from a table covered with heroin and cocaine.

SWAT members initially raided the home looking for Christopher Jones.

“What if the child was to swallow the drugs? Even if it comes in contact with their skin it gets absorbed into their skin cells. That’s not good,” said parent Melanie Meyers.

The Department of Children and Families took custody of the child.

Meyers, who recently moved into the community, woke up to a loud band Wednesday morning.

She says deputies were looking for a previous tenant, who is a suspected drug dealer.

“I was shaking. I was scared. I was spooked,” she said.
