An 18-year-old Ocala woman was arrested early Wednesday and charged with DUI and hit-and-run after crashing into another car and driving away, court records say.
Cassidy Nichole Beller was driving a 2003 Nissan west along State Road 40 near Northwest 110th Avenue shortly before 2 a.m. when she drifted into the eastbound lane and struck a 2003 Dodge driven by Bryan Cohen, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
Beller continued driving, and Cohen, who apparently was not hurt, followed her car until she pulled into a gas station about a half-mile down the road, the report stated.
At the gas station, Beller stood outside the vehicle over an 18-year-old woman who was lying on the ground. The woman was a passenger in Beller’s car and had been vomiting both inside and outside the vehicle.
Beller failed field sobriety tests administered by FHP Cpl. Susan Barge.
Beller told the trooper that she had been drinking shots of vodka at the home of a friend, whose parents had furnished the alcohol.
She also told Barge that she crashed into Cohen’s car because the passenger was throwing up and she didn’t know what to do. She also didn’t know why she didn’t stop immediately after the wreck.
Beller was charged with four misdemeanor counts, including DUI, hit-and-run, and hit-and-run with property damage. She was being held at the Marion County jail on Wednesday on $2,000 bail.
