Fugitive sex offender from Charleston found living in Beckley

A Charleston man who is a convicted sex offender had been on the run for nearly four months, but now he is back in jail.

Leslie Edward McGuire, 55, is charged with five counts of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. McGuire had been on the run since October 2013. He was registered as living in Kanawha County, but failed to report to the West Virginia State Police detachment in South Charleston. The arrest was made at 9 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 10 after State Troopers learned that McGuire was living in Beckley.

McGuire’s must register as a sex offender for the rest his life after being convicted on two counts of Sexual Assault. The crimes happened in Missoula, MT and were against two girls who were 13 and a 15-years-old. State Troopers said that the offenses were “sexually violent.”

McGuire is being held in the Southern Regional Jail. Bond was set at $125,000. A first offense of failing to register as a sex offender carries a sentence of one to five years. Each offense after the first carries a sentence of 10 to 25 years in jail.
