CHARLOTTE COUNTY, FL – A female dance instructor from Cape Coral has been convicted of sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl who she used to teach. Nichol Phelps, 30, is now awaiting sentencing.
The married woman molested the girl during a trip to Orlando. The inappropriate relationship started at Universal Dance Academy in Port Charlotte months before the physical molestation in Orlando.
The girl told investigators she started attending dance classes there when she was 13 and that Phelps immediately took a liking to her.
She went on to say Phelps would tell her what she wanted to do sexually and how she wanted to leave her husband for her.
We tried knocking on her door Tuesday, but someone shut the garage door while we did.
The first incident allegedly happened at a dance competition in Orlando back in March 2012, when Phelps was said to have pinned the victim against the wall of a bathroom and started kissing her.
The next day, Phelps ordered the girl into the backseat of a car where she molested her.
The relationship didn’t end after the molestation — investigators found over 500 phone calls and text messages between the two until June 2012. In June, Phelps had an emotional outburst at a dance recital at the academy and was fired.
She’s awaiting sentencing after being convicted of two counts lewd lascivious battery and attempted lascivious conduct.
