Two international tourists who say they came to Florida for a three-day visit were taken into custody on a recent Saturday. According to court documents, the arrest took place at the hotel where they were staying. Authorities say the men were found with a significant amount of marijuana in their possession, and they are now facing drug trafficking charges.

A spokesperson for the Broward Sheriff’s Office says hotel management received several complaints about a marijuana odor on the sixth floor. After a hotel employee filed a similar report, hotel management entered the room and quickly found the source of the strong smell. They reported it to the police.

After obtaining a search warrant, officers entered the room where they allegedly found 95 plastic bags that were heat-sealed, each containing about one pound of marijuana. They also reportedly seized a suitcase containing scales and heat-sealers along with empty plastic bags. The two guests, who were out at the time of the search, were arrested upon their return. Both claimed to have been asked by a third party to collect the marijuana from one place and deliver it to another address.

Visitors to Florida who find themselves being accused of drug possession or trafficking will likely secure the services of an experienced criminal defense attorney as soon as possible. A lawyer can scrutinize the methods used by law enforcement during the search and seizure and the arrest before devising a suitable defense strategy. The attorney will advocate for the defendants, seeking the most favorable outcome, depending on the details of the charges and the evidence presented.
