Former Florida State Park Director facing DUI

The former Florida State Park Director is keeping a rapid pace. Lisa Edgar resigned her job as head of the state’s park service less than two months after taking the position, and now, less than two months after her resignation, has found herself charged with drinking and driving.

The former director also served as a Public Service Commission member and deputy secretary of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. She is charged with DUI and property damage after her recent arrest far north of Fort Myers in Leon County.

According to a report by the Tallahassee Democrat, Edgar, 53, was allegedly in a minor traffic accident. Her vehicle apparently clipped the driver’s side mirror on another vehicle. The two drivers reportedly stopped and conversed before Edgar ended the discussion and drove off.

County troopers responded to calls about a vehicle similar to the one Edgar was driving “running people off” of a road, the newspaper’s report states. After she was pulled over, officers stated that she smelled of alcohol and was unsteady on her feet.

After she was taken to the county jail, Edgar declined to give a breath sample.

Because she declined, it is possible that she will have her driver’s license suspended for up to a year.

Lee County drivers facing a similar sanction know that a loss of license can make life very difficult, making it impossible for some people to keep a job or attend school.

An experienced criminal defense attorney will examine the circumstances of your arrest to determine, among other things, if probable cause existed. If there was no probable cause, your refusal to provide a breath test cannot be held against you.

You can schedule an appointment with an experienced attorney by contacting the Fort Myers law firm of Scott T. Moorey.
