Facing charges of any crime will cause anxiety and concern, especially if there is a child involved. Being arrested on drug charges can jeopardize a Florida mother’s parental rights. If the court suspects child neglect, the consequences can be severe, even if the mother is not convicted.

Authorities in Callaway reported that they arrested a 20-year-old Bay County mother. Official reports indicate that deputies served a search warrant on her apartment on a recent Wednesday. They claim to have found prescription medication residue, marijuana weighing over 20 grams and multiple filtration devices, or bongs, that are typically used for smoking marijuana.

The officers reported that a minor child was present in the apartment at the time of the search. Furthermore, they claim the mother admitted to using the seized substances in the presence of the child. The report indicates that this confession was what led to her arrest. They allege she also admitted to owning the residue filled straws and the bongs. This young mother now faces several drug possession charges, along with a charge of child neglect.

Any Florida person who is facing drug charges will likely want to explore his or her defense options. The best step is to secure the services of an experienced criminal defense attorney as soon as possible. Whether the accused person had a lapse in judgment, or if he or she was falsely accused or was unaware of breaking the law, a skilled attorney will do whatever is necessary to achieve the best possible outcome.
