Can a DUI end your career hopes?

For many people, a DUI will result in some fairly major shake-ups in their life. For students, these issues can serve as an even bigger roadblock.

Many students could find their career hopes ended thanks to one DUI, even if it is a first-time offense.

Refusal to hire applicants with a DUI

As the College Investor states, getting a DUI while attending college serves as a major issue in terms of pursuing certain career goals.

First of all, many fields will not hire a person with a DUI on record. This includes government agencies, jobs that work with children – including teaching – and jobs that require a commercial driver’s license.

Lacking transportation requirements

On top of that, many other jobs also require a person to have their own transportation. This is due to the unreliable nature of public transportation, as well as the fact that jobs often require people to transport things to and from their work that might have a high level of value.

Interference with internships

Even as a student, getting internships and work experience to prepare for graduation may prove harder with a DUI on record. Some of these individuals get looked over for internships due to their criminal records. Others do not have the access to reliable transportation needed to get the position.

Needless to say, these hurdles can do major damage to a person’s newly budding career, even ending it prematurely. It is why anyone facing a DUI charge should prepare to face it down like the serious threat it is when they go to court.
