The consequences of driving while impaired can be severe, especially if lives are lost in the process. A 36-year-old Florida man might be well advised to seek legal counsel because he will likely have to face drunk driving charges. When a person suspects that he or she might be arrested, it is usually a good idea to be proactive and secure the services of an attorney.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that a fatal accident occurred shortly after 2 a.m. on a recent Sunday. They allege the driver traveled closely behind another car, and in an attempt to pass it, he crashed into its rear. The impact sent the vehicles off the roadway and caused both to roll over.

A 24-year-old woman drove the other car. Both the driver and her 24-year-old passenger did not survive the crash. Two other passengers in that vehicle, ages 21 and 17, suffered serious injuries. FHP suspected the driver who rear-ended the other car was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. He was also seriously injured and transported to a hospital along with the injured passengers from the other vehicle.

The driver who is suspected of drunk driving has a record of a previous arrest, and he might be charged again upon his release from the hospital. In the meantime, it might be a smart move for him to contact an experienced criminal defense attorney. Having an lawyer in his corner when it comes to questioning can ensure that his legal rights are protected then and throughout any legal proceedings that might follow
